Adult Artist Tips

Protect Yourself

Below is a list of tips to protect yourself from censorship. Nothing is foolproof, of course. Always have a back up plan.

For the sake of brevity. "Paypro" here refers to any payment processor such as Paypal, Cashapp, Square, Stripe, etc.DO NOT:
- Post your payment link publicly.
- Share the email associated with your Paypro publicly anywhere it could be associated with NSFW content.
- Link to your NSFW content/alias anywhere associated with your Paypro (invoice description, ToS, etc)
- Mention words like: Pinup, Nude, Model, Commission or clearly 18+ words such as Cum, Penis, Vagina, Genitals, etc. Keep your Invoices simple and clean. I charge hourly, so the only information I have on my invoices are how many hours I worked. That's it.
PLEASE DO:
- Operate with Invoices Only.
- Link your ToS. ToS should have no specific mentions of NSFW at all. Use generic terms. Illustration, Sketchpage, Drawing, etc. Do not link examples directly.
- Use a separate username / identity for NSFW and SFW content. Your Paypro account should be only associated with the SFW profile.
- Transfer money out of your Paypro account as soon as it's available. Every Time.
- File for a DBA / Business License under the SFW alias.
- Read the terms and conditions of your Paypro carefully. And check each time they are updated.
- Turn off Feedback forms, comments, etc if possible. Do not give clients a way to rat you out (accidentally).
---------------------Basically. It should be nearly impossible for a Paypro to find your NSFW content if all the information they have is your legal name, email, and account information.
Your NSFW content should always have a degree of separation from your SFW in your social media, websites, etc.
We're looking for plausible deniability here.
They should have no PROOF readily available that you've done anything but squeaky clean SFW Art.

Protect your Clients

As a NSFW Creator you have some degree of obligation to protect the identity of your clients where possible.DO:
- Offer Anonymous credit for commissions. This is an easy thing to offer and many clients will be happy to see you do so.
- Offer non-public commissions. Personally, I have a fee for this. $25 - 20% of the comm cost depending on the level of privacy they want.
- Use display names for crediting a client. Ideally, ask each client how they want to be credited.
- Render the file names and documents in art packs or compilations anonymous for anonymous clients. Typically I will assign a 1 or 2 letter name to each anonymous client. For example; LustyLamb might become "L-Anon" in my file structure. I can still tell who it is for and won't end up confused down the line, but their identity is protected.
DO NOT:
- Publicly or privately share the real name of a client. Many Paypros give this info to payment receivers. It goes with you to the grave.
- Publicly or Privately share the emails, addresses, or other personal information of a client outside of necessary channels. For example, on public to do lists, trellos, etc. Hide that shit from prying eyes and crawlers.
- Share contact information such as telegram or discord publicly unless you have been directly asked to do so. Assume everybody is a hermit until proven otherwise.
Protect their privacy.

Just some general "taking NSFW commissions" tips since I've been doing this a long time and have a lot to say on the subject.(I'll finish this section later, I promise.)

That's fair.
Who the fuck am I, to offer this advice?
Hi! I'm Lamb, (30s, she/her).
I've been working in the furry fandom for a decade, and professionally / full time for nearly as long.
I have supported myself and my boyfriend with this income almost exclusively for the past 5+ years. I have bought a house, a car, and sustained a moderate lifestyle on this income.
I haven't ever really had an issue with Payment Processors. And I think this is partially to do with the tips I list above. A lot of it is luck, I'm sure. But good habits can take you far.
At the end of the day, The Paypros DO want your money. Don't make it easy for them to prove you are breaking ToS and you're probably alright.
Personally, I believe that fearmongering does little good.
Fight for our rights as adult creators, but at the same time cover your damn ass and don't do stupid shit that will get you caught. You ARE breaking their rules, after all. o7

Payment Processor Options

Last Updated: 01-07-2026Our options aren't great. On nearly every platform there are specific phrases in the ToS that forbid 18+ content.
You could argue that some of them only refer to 'real' pornography, and thus illustrations and the like are exempt. But these terms are often purposefully vague, Paypros have been known to act on fringe or grey area cases before.
I'll also list a couple things here that technically aren't payment processors, but are treated like them or offered as alternatives to NSFW-unfriendly Paypros.

The services below are not payment processors, but process payments through one of the above. Usually Paypal & Stripe.
Usually a service is beholden to whichever payment processor it uses. Sometimes they have special agreements (Patreon is a good example) and are allowed to break some rules. Over time, these kinds of services generally become stricter as payment processors put pressure on them (Patreon).
Additionally, with a few of them, you are paying fees twice. For the service you are using and again for the payment processor.
